Person to Person.
A 5O1 (c)(3) charity.
Our partnership with Person-to-Person began after we had the idea to create One Team. We ran into the issue of registering as a 5O1 (c)(3) charity, which takes many months. In our research, we stumbled upon Person-to-Person. After understanding their cause, and seeing strong similarities in our missions, we reached out to Nancy Coughlin, their CEO. That is where our partnership began.
Person-to-Person is a non-profit organization that began in 1968 with the goal of providing relief to the greater Stamford/Norwalk area. This relief entails financial assistance to families, as well as educational scholarships to help break the chain of poverty. They have a 20 person, full time staff, which includes 8 caseworkers dedicated to admitting families into their aid program and helping them through the process.
Using our network of local high school athletic coaches, One Team is able to identify families in need and refer them to Person-to-Person. They vet these families, evaluate their financial needs, and appoint a caseworker. The caseworker then looks at their bills, economic status, and other factors to ensure that the right amount of assistance goes to each family.
One Team collects donations that go to a Person-to-Person 5O1 (c)(3) account. These donations are tax deductible. The coaches associated with One Team’s program refer the families of players who most need help in our neighboring communities. These families are registered under the One Team/Person-to-Person designation. After they pass through the vetting system and are approved by the caseworkers, Person-to-Person directly helps pay for rent, utilities, and/or food. The players and their families may also access Person-to-Person food banks.
We are very grateful to have the opportunity to be working alongside of Person-to-Person, together we are One Team.
